Company garden - Geel
A sustainable building in an inspiring environment. Leading the way, pioneering and believing in innovation were some of the thoughts seen as priorities by this company when conceptualising their new company building. The intention to keep the ecological footprint as low as possible was taken very literally. Thus, a system was used to control temperature in a room (ing. Willis Carrier), underground parking was provided to avoid taking up scarce land, the building was equipped with LED lighting, ventilation with heat recovery and so on.
This line of thought was continued in the decoration around the building: the manager had a clear vision for this: a sustainable building in an inspiring environment. By integrating the building into a green environment, the company plays on sustainability, attractiveness and the well-being of its employees.
Tree species were selected on the basis of local climatic and soil conditions. Taking into account sufficient space for the trees to grow. As a result, the design came about with the species Gleditsia triac. ‘Sunburst’, Amelanchier lamarckii, Quercus palustris and Betula utilis.
Quercus palustris (Swamp oak)
Quercus palustris is a stately tree that excels with its straight growth and pyramidal shape. Its deeply incised, glossy green leaves provide an elegant appearance in summer, while in autumn it shines in shades of orange-red to deep red. Its striking silhouette and beautiful autumn colours make this oak a popular choice for avenues, parks and large gardens.
Betula utilis (Himalayan Birch)
Betula utilis is a graceful tree that immediately stands out with its striking white, exfoliating bark. This beautiful bark provides a decorative accent in the garden even in winter. With its narrow, upright growth habit and fine green leaves that turn golden yellow in autumn, this birch is an elegant choice for any garden or park. Betula utilis is ideal as a solitair, multi-stemmed or standard tree and brings a sophisticated, natural beauty to any setting, all year round.
Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Sunburst’ (Honey locust)
Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Sunburst’ is a striking ornamental tree with fresh yellow leaves that bring a sunny glow to any garden or street in spring. As the season progresses, the leaves turn to light green, providing a nice contrast. This thornless variety is popular for its airy crown, which offers light shade without being overpowering. Ideal as a solitair or avenue tree, Gleditsia ‘Sunburst’ will bring a radiant accent to your garden.
Amelanchier lamarckii (June berry)
Amelanchier lamarckii is a versatile shrub or small tree that blooms enchantingly with white flowers in spring, followed by edible, dark blue berries in summer. In autumn, the foliage changes to beautiful shades of orange, red and yellow, making this plant an attractive are with birds.
