Modern Garden - Langdorp

This modern garden in Langdorp was designed and laid out by the owner himself. He created an environment in which greenery and peace are central. By using evergreen and deciduous plants and trees, the garden remains a year-round cocoon in which it is pleasant to linger. The long boxwood cloud creates a seamless transition between the raised terrace and the adjacent lawn. The Parrotia persica acts as an eye-catcher, conjuring up shades of red, orange and purple in autumn. At the back, large multi-stemmed Fagus sylvatica form a natural screen between the adjoining gardens. Fagus sylvatica also returns as a partition in the form of a tight hedge at the sides of the garden.

In the front garden, three multi-stemmed Ginkgo biloba were chosen. The combination of the grey facade stone with the fresh green leaves in spring and the golden yellow discolouration in autumn, create a nice contrast in the colour palette.

Ginkgo biloba (Maidenhair tree)

Ginkgo biloba, also known as Maidenhair tree, is a unique and graceful tree with a rich history. This ‘living fossil’ has been around for more than 200 million years and survived the Hiroshima disaster. As a result, it is a symbol of strength and durability and is nicknamed the ‘tree of hope’ or ‘tree of peace’ . With its fan-shaped, fresh-green leaves that turn a beautiful golden yellow in autumn, the Ginkgo is an eye-catcher in any garden or park. Perfect as a solitair, multi-stemmed and standard tree for a striking accent in green surroundings.

Fagus sylvatica (Beech)

Fagus sylvatica is a majestic deciduous tree known for its dense, elegant crown and glossy, dark green leaves. In autumn, the leaves turn to beautiful shades of yellow to brown, then often remain on the branches as dry leaves in winter. Beech is versatile, from imposing solitary tree, multi-trunk to dense hedges offering year-round privacy.

Parrotia persica (Persian ironwood)

Parrotia persica is often grown as a multi-stemmed tree but also as a standard tree a very valuable addition to the garden. Suitable also for the smaller garden or front yard as it will rarely grow taller than 10m. Parrotia perscia ‘Vanessa’ also has a more upright growth which makes it ideal for smaller sites. As a multi-stemmed tree, Parrotia persica is sought after for its beautiful whimsical branch structure. It blossoms quite inconspicuously before the leaves emerge, but the bright red anthers are especially good to see as they grow older. A special ornamental value is also the beautiful autumn colouration in golden yellow, orange-red to purple.
